PRODUCT INFORMATION

A single, expansive estate situated on the hills of Gattinara, characterized by acidic, mineral-rich soils derived from the weathering of ancient volcanic porphyry.
Twenty-four hectares of vineyards are etched into the collective memory of this noble appellation:
Molsino: the legendary heart of these granitic hills, a south-facing amphitheater.
Valferana: the majestic intimacy of the most sheltered area, imparting metallic notes and refinement.
Garavoglie: the historic "balcony" overlooking the plain, an entire hillside bathed in sunlight from dawn to dusk.
The soils are distinguished by low pH and a high content of clay mixed with fine sand; they possess an inherent capacity to absorb minerals (manganese, iron, and zinc) in quantities nearly ten times higher than the average Italian vineyard. This allows unique characteristics—in terms of acidity, tannins, and color—to be transferred to the grapes, while also enabling yeasts to ferment the must in a much more natural way.
Nervi constantly measures and monitors data regarding soil vitality and can already define its soil as "alive."
Preserving this state is one of the company's primary objectives. This goal will be ensured through the use of vermicompost (currently the most biologically active organic matter available), targeted cover cropping and green manure practices, and proper, non-invasive soil cultivation. WINERY

Luigi Nervi, the company's founder, purchased the 19th-century residence from Vincenzo Bertolazzi for 17,000 lire in April 1919. In 1901, the area in front of the winery housed a vineyard and Mr. Bertolazzi's private bocce court. It was precisely on this site that the winery expansions—which still exist today—were constructed.
Since 1919, the Italian-style garden (unique in Gattinara), the shop, and the historic brick-vaulted cellar have remained virtually unchanged. Today, the estate covers an area of ??3,800 m², with 1,100 m² of underground space dedicated to aging cellars—an environment offering ideal conditions for the maturation of our fine wines.
The goal of the aging process is to harmonize the wines' chemical and physical characteristics, ensuring maximum longevity. This process involves the use of oak barrels, which facilitate slow, steady micro-oxygenation while allowing for the subtle release of aromas from the wood itself.
Patience is fundamental to Nervi: it allows us to enhance the extraordinary aromatic complexity of our Nebbiolo clones. At harvest time, these aromas reveal themselves only to those with deep knowledge of our grapes, while the full aromatic profile unfolds completely only after at least three or four years of aging. Unlike the aromatic exuberance typical of varieties such as Moscato, Nebbiolo offers only faint hints of its elegant, complex potential immediately after vinification. Thanks to its long history, our winery boasts a remarkable variety of vessels from different eras and materials: ranging from the truncated-cone wooden vats and concrete tanks of the early 20th century to modern stainless steel tanks. Each vessel is dedicated to the production and aging of a specific wine. Regarding stainless steel, it is primarily used for the fermentation of Gattinara DOCG, Coste della Sesia Spanna DOC, and the Nervi Rosa rosé.
