Bramasole 2009
Classification
Cortona DOC Syrah
Vintage
2009
Climate
The winter of 2008/2009 was very rainy with fairly mild
temperatures. Budbreak occurred from April 1st to
15th. A significant drop in temperatures between late
April and mid-May slowed the vegetative phase, but
a subsequent rise in temperatures between late May and early
June rebalanced the normal development of the vine,
leading to fruit set around early June as usual.
Between late spring and early summer, frequent rainfall favored the development of
vegetation. The sharp rise in temperatures from mid-July to early August brought forward the start of
ripening of the grapes. The dry and mild September
allowed ideal grape ripening, both in terms of
phenolic maturity and sugar content. The
results were very balanced in fruit and aroma,
flavorful and sufficiently structured.

Winery
The harvest of the grapes destined for Bramasole began around mid-September. After destemming and
crushing, the grapes were macerated, first at low temperatures to extract the aromas in an aqueous
solution, then raising the temperature to around 28°C. After about 18 days, the resulting wine was transferred to
new barriques where it completed its alcoholic fermentation and completed its malolactic fermentation. The aging period, which lasted approximately 16 months, concluded with bottling in the spring of 2011.
Historical Data
La Braccesca extends over 508 hectares where the ancient farm of the Bracci counts once stood, hence the name
of the estate and its coat of arms: an arm covered in armor holding a sword. The total vineyard area is
340 hectares divided into two parcels: the first, 366 hectares, of which 237 are planted with vines, is located on the border between the municipalities
of Montepulciano and Cortona. The other parcel, 142 hectares, of which 103 are planted with vines, extends all the way to
Montepulciano between three of the most renowned subzones for the production of great red wines: Cervognano, Santa Pia, and
Gracciano. And it is precisely from the sunniest segment of the vineyard, from one of the areas of Cortona best suited to the cultivation of quality Syrah, that Bramasole is born. A wine capable of evolving over time and, according to a new variety, expressing a territory with an ancient winemaking tradition. The first vintage of Bramasole was
2000.
Tasting Notes
A rich yet delicate wine, the 2009 Bramasole is characterized by notes of black fruit and tobacco that, on the palate,
merge with notes of licorice and black pepper, typical of the variety. The finish is soft and enveloping, with a
long persistence.
