PRODUCT INFORMATION
Chianti Classico is the company's production base. The vineyards are located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southeastern part of the Chianti Classico production zone, northeast of Siena. Facing almost exclusively southwest, they extend across windy slopes at an altitude ranging from 320 to 420 meters above sea level. Geologically, the soils are quite heterogeneous: in the higher sections, quartz sandstone and alberese mixed with alluvial rock predominate; stratiform sandstone and silt characterize the vineyards bordering the Colli Senesi area, towards the Crete Senesi. First vintage 1967.
Denomination
Chianti Classico DOCG.
Grape variety
100% Sangiovese.
Production area
Grapes from the Chianti Classico vineyards in Castelnuovo Berardenga, northeast of Siena.
Vines per hectare
5,400.
Training system
Espalier with spurred cordon and simple Guyot pruning, with a maximum of 5-8 buds per vine.
Harvest
At different times due to the different altitudes of the vineyards, but always within the first three weeks of October.
Vineyard Age
From the selection of vineyards in the 1970s and 1980s, in-depth studies were conducted to identify the most suitable mother plants for grafting and replanting, which took place between 1990 and the early 2000s.
After crushing and destemming the grapes, fermentation begins at temperatures between 28°C and 30°C. The entire maceration process in stainless steel tanks lasts 12-15 days with automatic punching down and daily pumping over. In March–April, the new wine is transferred to medium-sized Slavonian oak barrels and a small percentage to second- and third-use barriques, where it matures for 12 months. It is then blended and bottled, where it ages for at least three months before being released for sale.
Ruby red color with good intensity and hue. The fruity, fine, and elegant aroma is dominated by wild berries, accompanied by hints of various spices. Good fruitiness on the palate with just the right amount of tannins and a lingering aftertaste.
