Maison Salon is a small producer of Champagne Blanc de Blancs, acclaimed by critics around the world. Salon, along with Maison Delamotte, has been part of the large Laurent-Perrier group since 1989. The Salon company was founded by the fur trader Aimé Salon Eugène in the 20th century.
Description
Salon Cuvée Brut is an extremely rare vintage champagne, produced exclusively in the best years. Only 37 vintages were produced in the 20th century, a unique phenomenon in the world of wine. This is the forty-fourth edition in 120 years since the founding of Maison Salon and the vintage to which it refers.
Champagne Salon is as always placed under the sign of the number one: it was born from the intellect of a single man, Aimé Salon, of a single terroir, the Côte des Blancs, of a single cru, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, of a single grape variety, Chardonnay, and is the only child of a single harvest.
Tasting notes:
In natural light, Salon 1997 offers a radiant appearance, while the golden hues dance with the green reflections in the glass, a reliable indicator of a superb Blanc de Blancs. On the nose, white flowers emerge, lime blossom, jasmine and bergamot peel make up the bouquet, with the classic minerality of Le Mesnil. The greatness of the terroir emerges, subtle and profound. Rich and long at the same time, it shows a perfect balance on the palate, with a contained power. The warm character of the vintage is tangible, it boasts a good structure with elegant and rounded aromas of baked apple, toasted hazelnut and salted butter caramel. The chalky and delicious finish, supported by evanescent bubbles, bears the signature of Salon. The origins of the wine have the last word: Le Mesnil expresses itself in the frank, consumed and finely refined character; Salon 2013 reveals an unexpected strength that is released.
