Typical tar and paraffin note, very attenuated, although present, and a particularly evident fruity side, characterized by ripe banana, pineapple and mango. There is no lack of good bitter cocoa and a concentrated espresso.
Pleasant balsamic note, of mint. Pleasant saline note, next to a good licorice. With water, the woody note intensifies.
The finish is long, markedly marked by licorice and with a rather persistent flavor.
The legendary Caroni distillery ceased operations in 2002, after a long period of production started in Trinidad in 1918, leaving Angostura as the only active distillery on the island. The reserves of this superb Rum have become particularly sought after by independent bottlers for their rich and spicy character, giving rise to a real treasure hunt to get hold of the old barrels. Caroni is now very famous throughout Europe: the distillery has been closed since 2003 and the bottling of the few remaining barrels is acquiring more and more value among collectors. After 51 different expressions in 12 years, they bottle the Full Strength rum and the Imperial proof 100° versions with the classic labels with black and white photographs and at the same time we keep the blends with colored labels. Stocks are decreasing more and more, considering the incredible Angel Share of Trinidad, up to 10% per year. At the same time, the refinement is increasingly rapid. The latest releases of 2016 were literally burned, among the few markets where the bottles are present. The search for bottles from the early 90s is fervent, the value of these has reached stellar figures and until a few years ago unthinkable for rums released only a few years ago: today a bottle of Caroni is the investment with the highest and most immediate return. For the heroes who open the bottles: the pleasure of tasting the oldest rum on the market today!
