Brunello Di Montalcino DOCG

2020
Climate
The 2020 winter season began with mainly dry weather
during the months of January and February.
From budbreak, which occurred in the last days of
March, until the end of July, the climate was regular, with
sunny days and sporadic rains that
ensure the proper replenishment of water reserves in the soil.
The summer, particularly the month of August, was protected
from rising temperatures, but without any particular
heat spikes; the excellent temperature ranges between day and night
provided the vines with the right amount of refreshment and a successful
start to the grape ripening process. Harvest
began immediately after mid-September and concluded
in the last week of the month.
Vinification
Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were destemmed and gently pressed before being transferred to stainless steel tanks
where alcoholic fermentation took place. Maceration lasted an average of twelve days at
a temperature of 28°C. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to oak barrels
of between 30 and 80 hl, where it began its maturation process. After two years, Pian delle
Vigne left the large barrels to begin its long bottle aging.
Historical Data
Pian delle Vigne Estate, located 6 km southwest of Montalcino, takes its name from the town of the same name
where a characteristic 19th-century railway station is located. The estate comprises 184 hectares, 65 of which
are planted with vineyards, with a mainly southwest exposure, at an altitude of approximately 130 meters above sea level. Pian delle Vigne has always pursued
a philosophy of aging in large barrels, capable of preserving the extraordinary integrity of the
Sangiovese fruit and giving Brunello its characteristic vibrant elegance. The winery has been owned by the Antinori family
since 1995, the year of the first harvest of Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
