Selection Kreuth
A mild winter with little snow was followed
by an equally mild and very dry spring.
Fortunately, frequent rains arrived in May,
keeping temperatures low and restoring water reserves,
which had already been depleted to alarming levels. Furthermore, the rather low
temperatures of April and May slightly delayed
the flowering of the vines.
In the subsequent summer months of June and July, rainfall
was more than sufficient, but precisely because of this, the vineyards
were exposed to fungal attacks of powdery mildew and
downy mildew. However, thanks to the winegrowers' long experience and
targeted interventions, significant harvest losses were avoided.
In August, a period of scorching heat slightly slowed the ripening of the grapes, but after some heavy rainfall towards the end of the month, the last
days of summer benefited from stable weather, especially in the second half of September. These favorable factors resulted in a good harvest, which began on September 4th with the
Sauvignon Blanc.
The 2023 vintage is characterized by its fresh and very fruity wines,
with a slightly lower alcohol content, and can be classified
from good to excellent.

Climate
The soaring peaks of the Alps protect Alto Adige from the colder Atlantic
currents coming from the north, while to the south the region is open to Mediterranean
influences. Thanks to the cold winds that descend from the surrounding mountains,
Terlan's microclimate is characterized by strong temperature variations between day and
night.
Even on the southern side, several mountain ranges, such as the
Adamello group, act as a climate shield, which is why
annual precipitation is only a third of that recorded in the southern
Alpine foothills, while solar radiation is higher. These
climatic characteristics are very similar to other European wine-growing areas, such as Valais in
Switzerland.
On each of the year's three hundred sunny days, when the first rays of sunshine appear
behind the mountains east of Terlano, the sun is already high on the horizon, as all
our vineyards face south and southwest. The low density of the atmosphere
causes direct solar radiation to be more intense, while diffuse
radiation is less, and this factor accentuates the differences between sunny and
shaded slopes.
