CAOL ILA DISTILLERY

PRODUCT INFORMATION

The Caol Ila distillery is located in Port Askaig, one of the most sheltered bays on the Isle of Islay.
There are no precise data on the birth of the distillery, but we can identify the beginning of its history in 1846 thanks to the founder Mr. Hector Henderson.
A few years later, in 1852, there were serious economic problems and the distillery passed ownership to Norman Buchanan, already owner of Isle of Jura Distillery.
In 1863 new financial difficulties caused Caol Ila to end up in the hands of Bulloch Lade & Co. Ltd who managed it until 1920.
At this point a holding company took over which belonged Robertson & Baxter, Dewars and Distillers Company Limited (DCL).
This state of affairs lasted until 1927, the year in which DCL took control.
Three years later, in 1930, the distillery closed and the closure lasted seven years, until 1937, the year in which distillation operations resumed.
From 1972 to 1974 the distillery was almost completely rebuilt. An operation that would cost one million pounds and that would culminate with the installation of six new stills.
The rest is modern history.
Today the Caol Ila distillery is owned by the Diageo Group as are many other production companies in Scotland.

CAOL ILA SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY MOSAICS COLLECTION DISTILLED 2007 BOTTLED 2024 MOON IMPORT

The Mosaics Collection 2024, Pepi Mongiardino's latest effort, is made up of six different whiskies united by a thematic label; in this case they are reproductions of ancient mosaics.
In this case we present a Caol Ila from the assembly of two barrels: n° 322176 and 322180, bottled in 2024.
Only 706 bottles of 70 cl. produced at an alcohol content of 45% Vol.
The color is gold with green reflections; on the nose it develops delicate but long-lasting aromas, fresh slightly salty with citrus hints and the usual polyphenolic nuance, typical of Islay Whiskies.
On the palate it is initially soft and sweet, harmonious, with perceptions of algae and peat smoke.
The long finish proposes a delicate smokiness and salty notes.
