Bowmore Distillery is located on the Isle of Islay, in the heart of the village of the same name. In 1963, under the aegis of owner Stanley P. Morrison, it became one of the most successful distilleries in the Scotch whisky industry. In 1994 it was sold to the Japanese Suntory. Cellar #1, which produces its finest cuvées Bowmore 30 years 1963 and Bowmore Bicentenary, has largely contributed to forging its international reputation. Built below sea level, close to a natural rock dam, it is constantly soaked in sea spray on its walls and dirt floors. Anchored in tradition, Bowmore is one of the last distilleries to carry out part of the malting of the barley needed to produce whisky in-house. Aged in ex-bourbon casks (Bowmore White 1964) or in ex-sherry casks (Black Bowmore 1964), the spirit with notes of liquorice, peat and eucalyptus always manages to bring out that touch of exotic fruit that represents the trademark and quintessential of the company.
