TASTING NOTES
55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot Alc. : 13.5 % vol.
Le Volte dell’Ornellaia 2023 presents itself with a deep color and an expressive aroma, dominated by intense aromas
of ripe fruit such as blueberry and blackberry. On the palate, the wine is broad and enveloping, characterized by a perfect balance between
freshness and structure. The finish is long and pleasant, with silky tannins that add elegance and softness to the
tasting experience.
THE CLIMATE OF 2023
2023 was a challenging year in Bolgheri, which nevertheless benefited from the benevolence of nature at
the crucial moments of the growth phase. The winter was mild, with relatively high temperatures and normal
precipitation, which favored early growth of the plants. Spring brought abundant
precipitation, useful for replenishing water reserves for the summer, but which required scrupulous work
in the vineyard. The hot summer saw high temperatures, although not reaching extreme peaks, accompanied by
rain that mitigated water stress in the vineyards. This allowed a gradual and regular ripening
of the grapes, which reached a high concentration.
The rains at the end of August and the cool nights of September favored the development of aromatic complexity
and preserved the acidity of the wine, ensuring a perfect balance between power and elegance.
VINIFICATION AND REFINING
The vinification was done separately in small steel tanks respecting the different
varietal characteristics during the fermentation phases. The alcoholic fermentation was followed by malolactic fermentation,
always in steel tanks. The refinement phase lasted 10 months partly in barriques, previously used for
Ornellaia, the other part in cement tanks, to obtain a perfect balance between tannic structure and
fruity expression.
