AL POGGIO CHARDONNAY, CASTELLO DI AMA. The highly calcareous soil and the altitude of the Ama slopes have produced an extraordinary Chardonnay-based white wine since 1988. Al Poggio expresses the noble varietal richness with freshness, enhancing its character.
In the glass, it displays a clear yellow color with brilliant golden reflections, with notes of typical summer flowers and fruits, such as banana, orange, and pineapple. On the palate, it has a decisive yet delicate attack, with excellent freshness. It boasts excellent persistence and length.
Winemaking: After pressing the grapes, the must was chilled and fermented (60%) in stainless steel tanks, while the remaining grapes were aged in barriques. The remaining 25% of the grapes destined for wood fermentation were macerated on the skins for approximately 12 hours. The portion vinified in Allier and Troncais barriques, 50% new and 50% 1-year-old, underwent malolactic fermentation. The wine remained in wood “sur lies” for approximately 8 months, with regular batonnage every 7 days.
