The 2019 Taurasi Riserva Paterico pulls the taster close to the glass as it slowly unfurls, mixing crushed ashen stones with aromas of underbrush, wilted violets, black currants and exotic spice. It’s youthfully dense and backward yet still quite complex. A silken wave of ripe red and black fruits swirls across the palate, gaining energy and a tactile grip toward the close. The 2019 excels through its acidity—racy and wickedly fresh. Hints of blood orange resonate above a coating of fine-grained tannins, leaving savory nuances of sage and olive to resonate. Today, the 2019 can be enjoyed on its potential alone, yet patience will be required to watch it blossom over time.
