Sansasia is the crown jewel of Icario wines, a limited-production Sangiovese that represents the heart of the Icario family. Named in honor of Sandra, Sabine, and Silvia, the owner’s two daughters and wife, this wine is a dedication to Icario’s legacy. Crafted through a collaboration between the owner, our team, and renowned winemaker Bernabei, Sansasia is produced from the finest selection of Sangiovese grapes from our entire estate.
Using the traditional “governo alla toscana” method, we have enhanced the bold character of this wine, creating a Sangiovese with remarkable depth, complexity, and elegance. Every bottle of Sansasia is a tribute to the passion and dedication behind its creation, produced in limited quantities to ensure its exceptional quality.
DescriptionAwards PRODUCTION NOTES In this bottle you will find all the essence of an extraordinary project that began in 2017. The grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected to create a wine that represents the union of the unique character of our terroir, the harmony of Sangiovese in all its purity together with the enormous love and dedication of the Icario team and the passion for wine of Dr. Helmut Rothenberger. The harvest takes place only by hand towards the end of September, after which the fermentation and maceration take place in steel barrels at a temperature of 25-28° for a minimum of 25-28 days. Then it is time for racking and the temperature is lowered to 18-20° to allow malolactic fermentation. The refinement takes place in 225-liter French oak barriques and 500-liter tonneaux. After 24 months the wine is bottled and then aged for a further 12 months before being released onto the market.
TASTING NOTES Ruby red color tending towards garnet with aging. On the nose we have an impressive intensity, a remarkable balance and persistence. The aromas recall notes of fresh red and dark fruits, undergrowth and sweet spices, together with delicate floral tones. In the mouth it is full and enveloping, with a balanced and fine body.
