PRODUCT INFORMATION
Winter began with mild weather, marked by above-average temperatures and abundant rainfall, which allowed for the accumulation of excellent water reserves in the soil. Spring, and especially March, was generally dry, allowing for optimal soil cultivation and favoring early budbreak, which began about 10 days earlier than expected, starting on April 6th. The sudden heatwave on the night of April 8th caused a significant reduction in production without in any way affecting the future quality of the grapes. Flowering occurred late, during the last days of June, coinciding with warm, sunny days. The dry summer, with above-average temperatures, favored the complete and balanced ripening of the grapes. Sales began on September 15th and concluded on the 30th.
Vinification
The grapes, harvested separately by variety, were destemmed and gently pressed, then transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 25-28°C. Maceration, which lasted 7-10 days, was carefully managed, with interventions aimed at enhancing the structure, extracting only the sweetest tannins. The resulting wine was transferred to large barrels, where malolactic fermentation took place. From the spring following harvest, it began its maturation process, lasting approximately 12 months. Following bottling in spring 2024, the wine underwent further bottle aging before being released to the market in spring 2025.
Historical Data
La Braccesca extends over 508 hectares where the ancient farm of the Bracci counts once stood, hence the estate's name and its coat of arms: an arm covered in armor holding a sword. The total vineyard area is 340 hectares, divided into two parcels: the first, 366 hectares, of which 237 are planted with vines, is located on the border between the municipalities of Montepulciano and Cortona. The other parcel, 142 hectares, of which 103 are planted with vines, extends all the way to Montepulciano, encompassing three of the most renowned subzones for the production of fine red wines: Cervognano, Santa Pia, and Gracciano. The first vintage of La Braccesca Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG was 1990.
Tasting Notes
