PRODUCT INFORMATION
The 2024 season began with a mild winter characterized by some rain in late November 2023 and then again in March.
The rains partially replenished a reasonable water reserve after nearly two years of extreme drought. Thanks to the mild temperatures, budbreak occurred very early, beginning in Barbaresco around March 20th.
April brought fluctuating weather, with temperatures above 25°C in the second week, then dropping sharply to 6-8°C at the end of the month. The same climatic situation continued into May, which was also characterized by unusually frequent rainfall for this time of year. This rain slowed work in the vineyard and made fungal disease control particularly difficult. On the other hand, the rainfall further improved the soil's water reserves.
The warmest weather arrived in June and lasted for the next two months, but never exceeded 35°C.
September brought milder weather, cool at night and warm during the day, but with rain on the 5th, 9th, and 18th of the month.
Further rain on October 3rd made the situation more critical, and it was decided not to delay any longer, starting the harvest on October 5th. Unfortunately, October also proved to be a rainy month, forcing winemakers to interrupt harvesting operations numerous times to allow the grapes to dry on sunny days between showers.
Over 95% of the grapes were harvested in good health before the 14th, when four consecutive days of rain arrived. The grapes were therefore healthy, although some dilution of the aromatic complexity was inevitable.
In conclusion, a difficult, hot, and rainy year, a "wet" harvest unlike anything seen in over twenty years. Careful selection of Nebbiolo grapes from various vineyards is essential to producing a balanced, medium-bodied Barbaresco that is pleasant to drink from its first years of life.
