The year 2023 began with the uncertainties due to the anomalous climate trend of the previous year characterized by a long period of drought. The winter, colder than the previous one, lasted until the end of February with little significant rainfall and the beginning of the vegetative cycle, the budding, occurred in the last ten days of March. The development of the plant then continued regularly despite the fluctuating climate context: the first part of spring was characterized by a very dry climate; instead, the months of May and early June saw frequent and sometimes significant disturbances and a generally cool climate. These conditions on the one hand allowed the plants under stress due to the prolonged drought to recover water, on the other they required great attention from the winemakers to avoid the onset of early plant diseases precisely in the delicate flowering period, early June.
The summer was hot and dry and also for this reason the production was generally reduced and the ripening slowed down. The last fortnight of August was particularly hot while a rain on the 28th brought a few days of relief from the heat.
September also passed with a dry climate and temperatures above average until the 24th of the month when the nights became cooler with excellent temperature range until the 3rd of October when the harvest of the Nebbiolo grapes began without particular critical issues. The end of September, with good temperature range, helped the completion of the organoleptic maturation and having waited until October allowed us to harvest ripe and balanced grapes even if not particularly concentrated in aromas and tannins.
A difficult 2023 season, due to the prolonged water shortage, with a rather reduced production, but with a good organoleptic balance.
A harvest that will be able to give pleasant and very drinkable wines.
