That of Nervi is the oldest reality of the denomination and of the municipality of Gattinara, in the upper Piedmont. Founded in 1906, its history continues with great successes and satisfactions until 2011 when the Norwegian group Astrup is sold. But it is in 2018 that it returns to Italian hands, and the buyer is not just anyone: it is bought by Roberto Conterno, heir and manager of the famous Giacomo Conterno delle Langhe winery. 24 hectares of property are located on the slopes of Monte Rosa. and have a peculiarity: on the slopes of the mountain in ancient times there was a super volcano of about 13 km in diameter, so the whole area is rich in volcanic porphyry, which gives Nebbiolo (which is called Spanna here) unique characteristics. Valferana di Nervi is a Piedmontese red made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes that come from crus of the same name, from 30-year-old plants located at about 320 meters above sea level. The vinification is carried out in steel tanks, at a controlled temperature. The refinement, on the other hand, is 48 months, in large oak barrels. In the glass it shows a pale ruby ??red with garnet veins; the nose is fine and austere, dominated by balsamic, graphite and spice notes, followed by hints of small red fruits. On the palate it is deep, with dense tannins and a strong mineral freshness. Perfect Sunday wine, we recommend pairing with grilled or roasted red meats, game and aged cheeses

All this leads to the creation of Piedmontese wines of the highest quality, rich in character, able to tell the most authentic side of the territory in every glass. Its secret lies in the knowledge of the vines: the strategic position of the vines, in the heart of the village of Gattinara, is particularly useful for the production of quality grapes. The dry and cool climate combines with the mineral component of the soil, rich in unique properties, which give the grapes a note of incredible finesse.
