Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG This Chianti Classico Riserva is born in the heart of Chianti Classico, in a natural amphitheater facing southwest with exceptional soil and climate conditions for uniqueness and quality. We are in Gaiole in Chianti, in the 500-meter-altitude vineyards of the Tenuta Perano, where Sangiovese finds one of its most elegant and characterful expressions. The result of careful manual selection in the vineyard, it is then aged in oak barrels for 24 months. Climate Trend Winter 2021 was characterized by mild weather, but with frost and precipitation. The spring thaw and rising temperatures allowed the vines to bud in mid-April with the Sangiovese, thus beginning their vegetative cycle. Spring, with mild temperatures, allowed the canopy to develop well, with a very extensive and complete vegetative canopy. The vines flowered in early June with sunny days and mild temperatures that favored good fruit set. Subsequently, veraison occurred a few days early, at the beginning of August thanks to optimally warm conditions during the day, mitigated by good nighttime ventilation. Much of the credit for this extraordinary vintage, however, must be attributed to the particularly hot summer, marked by two light rains at the end of August. The harvest, which began in mid-September, was characterized by sunny days and normal temperatures, which characterized the 2021 vintage, making it extraordinary for the intensity of aromas and richness of tannins, which the two summer rains made soft and velvety. Technical Notes Varieties: Sangiovese and Merlot Alcohol Content: 14% Aging: 24 months in oak barrels Vinification and Maturation The story of this wine begins first and foremost in the vineyard, where the altitude, exposure, and slope contribute to the elegance and expressiveness of the grapes. Once harvested by hand and carefully selected, they are fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Frequent cap breakages allow for perfect polyphenolic extraction, which determines the typical color and structure of a Chianti Classico Riserva. The extended aging period in wood certainly contributes to the structural intensity of this wine, which is further refined by a period in the bottle. At the end of this period, Tenuta Perano Riserva 2021 is ready to be released. Tasting Notes The Tenuta Perano Chianti Classico Riserva 2021 presents an intense and brilliant ruby ??red color. The bouquet is complex and extremely representative of its terroir. The initial aroma is floral with typical hints of violet and dog rose; followed by elegant red fruit reminiscent of sour cherry. Spicy with hints of licorice root and clove. The tertiary notes recall tobacco leaves and roasting. On the palate, the wine is savoury, with a wonderful tannic texture and freshness. The balance between taste and aroma is always remarkable.
