PRODUCT INFORMATION
REGION: Tuscany
AREA: Montalcino, Siena
GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION: Podernovi Vineyard
ALTITUDE: 450 m above sea level
EXPOSURE: Southeast
SOIL TYPE: Rich in marl and minerals, with a good presence of clay
TRAINING SYSTEM: Spurred cordon
PLANTING YEAR: 1990
PLANTING DENSITY: 4,000 vines/ha
YIELD: 34 hl/ha
HAVING TIME: Manual harvest in small 17 kg crates during the first ten days of
October
VINIFICATION: Soft pressing of the grapes preceded by careful selection of the berries
FERMENTATION: In 25 hl Slavonian oak truncated cone-shaped vats
FERMENTATION TEMPERATURE: 28-30°C
DURATION: 28-30 days
MALOLACTIC FERMENTATION: Carried out in 40 hl barrels
AGEING: 30 months in 40 hl lightly toasted Slavonian oak tonneaux. It is then aged
for at least 6 months in the bottle before being released.
NOTES ON THE VINTAGE: After a mild and dry winter, budbreak began early. However, a return of cold
spring, with some snowfall in April, temporarily slowed the vines' growth, which then recovered with a
vigorous flowering. The hot, rain-free summer led the vines to develop more moderately, without signs of stress.
The temperature swings at the end of August favored an optimal balance between sugars and acidity. At harvest time,
which took place on September 24th and 25th, the grapes surprised with their concentration and finesse. In the cellar, prolonged macerations,
lasting over a month, give the 2020 vintage very promising aging potential. The 2020 vintage benefited
from stable and warm weather, which allowed the Sangiovese grapes to ripen without excessive
concentration, offering early drinkability but also great aging potential.
TASTING NOTES: Podernovi has a light ruby ??red color with light garnet highlights. On the nose,
it reveals floral aromas of violet, cyclamen, and jasmine, notes of fresh fruit, and hints of spice. On the palate, it is balanced, with good
structure and acidity, smooth tannins, and excellent persistence.
SERVING: Serve in large balloon glasses at 16-18°C and uncork one hour before serving.
