THE 2013 VINTAGE
After a mild autumn, the winter was rather cold with abundant rainfall that continued until early summer, causing a slow growth of the vines. From the second half of July until the end of September, the weather was warm and stable, with a significant temperature range between day and night, which developed a good basic aroma in the grapes. The harvest began in late September, slightly later than average.
THE ORIGIN
The 2013 Riserva was produced exclusively with a selection of grapes from our estate vineyards, including our oldest vines.
THE AGEING
The 2013 Riserva was aged for 3 years in Slavonian oak barrels.
THE EMOTION
A Riserva tied to the aromas of the earth. The 2013 bouquet presents a wide array of intriguing notes reminiscent of autumnal undergrowth, aromatic herbs, porcini mushrooms, and bitter cherries. When young, this pleasantly austere Riserva immediately appears graceful, displaying its balance and elegance with reserved delicacy. Its complexity and, above all, its palate's plasticity are surprising, moving simultaneously on the vertical and horizontal axes in a crescendo of sensations that will only further enrich themselves with age. The 2013 vintage is officially the 40th Riserva produced since 1888. For the first time in its history, Biondi-Santi has produced three large formats for this vintage in addition to the classic 750 ml bottle: Magnum, Jeroboam, and Mathusalem.
