PRODUCT INFORMATION
Denomination: D.O.C. Bolgheri Sassicaia
First harvest: 1968
Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon 15% Cabernet Franc
Type of soil: The soils on which the vineyards stand have varied and composite morphological characteristics with a strong presence of calcareous areas rich in galestro and stones and partially clayey; they are located at an altitude between 100 and 300 meters above sea level, with exposure to the west/southwest.
Training system: Spurred cordon
Plant density: From 3,600 vines/ha to 5,550 vines/ha for older plants and 6,200 vines/Ha for more recent plants.
Climate: The climate of the year 1999 was particularly favorable, even better than the year 1998.
Abundant rains in July led to good vegetation, and the
moderate temperatures of the estate did not cause stress for the vineyards.
Harvest: The 1999 harvest began at the beginning of September and lasted for about four
weeks without interruption.
Vinification: Vinification in steel at a controlled temperature of around 30° - 31°C. About two
weeks of maceration on the skins, with various pumping over and delestages. Malolactic in
steel.
Ageing: The ageing, in French oak of which 40% was new wood, lasted for
23 months and bottling took place in the second half of October 2001.
