Climate The winter months were characterized by abundant rainfall and mild temperatures, which favored budbreak about 10 days earlier than usual, occurring between late March and early April. Spring was characterized by frequent rainfall and lower-than-average temperatures, allowing for a long and regular flowering period, lasting about fifteen days. The excellent water reserves accumulated during the winter and spring months enabled the vines to best weather the generally warm and dry summer period, allowing for proper berry formation and development. The harvest was marked by a generally warm season, interrupted by some rain at the end of September, giving the grapes excellent varietal expression and a good sugar-acid balance. The Merlot was harvested between August 27th and September 7th, while the other varieties were harvested later: Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The harvest concluded at the end of September, with wines characterized by a fresher and more vertical style than usual.
Vinification Upon arrival at the winery, the selected grapes were destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation and maceration took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for approximately 15-20 days at a temperature of 28-30°C. Part of the Merlot and Syrah musts were kept at slightly lower fermentation temperatures to better preserve the varietal aromas. Malolactic fermentation took place partly in barriques and partly in stainless steel tanks, and was completed by the end of the year for all varieties. The Cabernet Sauvignon was then added to the other varieties: the resulting wine was once again placed in barriques, where it aged for at least six months before bottling.
Historical Data Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located in the small and prestigious Bolgheri DOC, on the coast of Alta Maremma, about one hundred kilometers southwest of Florence. This appellation has a relatively short history (established in 1994) but boasts international fame as a new benchmark in the global winemaking scene. Tenuta Guado al Tasso extends over 1,000 hectares—approximately 320 of which are planted with vineyards, the remainder cultivated with wheat, sunflowers, and olive trees—in a splendid plain surrounded by hills known as the "Bolgheri amphitheater" due to its unique shape. The Guado al Tasso vineyards are primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Vermentino grapes, the latter of which is grown as both a white and red grape. They enjoy a mild climate thanks to the nearby sea: constant breezes mitigate the summer heat and the harsh winters, clearing the sky and maintaining a high level of sunshine. Il Bruciato was created in 2002, during one of Tenuta Guado al Tasso's most difficult vintages, to present and showcase Bolgheri's unique terroir in a modern style. The initial blend was Guado al Tasso, but over the years the varietal composition changed and a dedicated vineyard selection was created. Il Bruciato was not produced in 2003.
Tasting Notes Il Bruciato 2024 displays its usual intense ruby ??red color. On the nose, notes of small red fruits such as raspberry and cherry stand out, complemented by hints of vanilla, tobacco, and a hint of cotton candy. On the palate, it is balanced and enveloping: a pleasant freshness is accompanied by good persistence and a delightful fruity aftertaste. A wine that remains true to its style and consistently surprises with its pleasant drinkability.
