PRODUCT INFORMATION

Barolo Pira portrays the class and austerity of Nebbiolo with crystal clarity, in an interpretation of absolute classicism. Pira, a cru extremely suitable for the Nebbiolo vineyards and known for giving life to tight and deep wines, as well as a monopoly of the Roagna family since 1989. Luca Roagna is a guardian of the land, and has decided to firmly continue the family tradition, which has maximum respect for the vineyard and biodiversity has always been foreseen, as well as work in the cellar with a view to little interventionism. 12 hectares of vineyards, located between some of the best sub-areas of Barolo and Barbaresco, cultivated without any chemical substance and continuing in the cellar with spontaneous fermentations, banning clarifications or filtrations.

The red Pira derives from 100% Nebbiolo grapes from the homonymous cru located in Castiglione Falletto. This family monopoly covers approximately 11 hectares and can be divided into 6 micro-lots with different soil compositions, ranging from bluish marl to limestone rocks. The vines used to compose this wine are between 25 and 50 years old, and are harvested manually in October, with a double selection of the grapes first in the vineyard and then in the cellar. The fermentation takes place spontaneously in large wooden barrels and lasts about 10 days while the maceration is long and lasts between 60 and 75 days. The process ends with the maturation in large oak barrels for about 5 years.

The Barolo Pira di Roagna descends into the glass with a ruby color veering towards garnet. The first smell returns an extremely typical liquid, a perfect fusion of class and composure. Nebbiolo of the purest breed from the Langhe, which gradually reveals itself in its notes of licorice, cherry and violet, all with a phlegmatic gait typical of true champions. Tasting reveals the wine in all its components, and is overwhelming and impetuous. It takes possession of the palate, by virtue of an irrepressible freshness and a saline texture that considerably lengthens the sip, fading into a very long persistence. Yet another masterpiece not to be missed, like all the wines in this cellar.
