PRODUCT INFORMATION

The 2021 vintage began with a mild winter, albeit rich in precipitation, including snow, which ensured an excellent water supply that proved essential for the continuation of the campaign.
March recorded rather mild temperatures with the vegetative recovery starting regularly towards the end of the month. April instead brought a return of colder temperatures with even intense cold in the early morning hordes. Nebbiolo, an early-developing variety and therefore potentially more exposed, was not significantly affected by the drop in temperature, with damage from light frosts limited to vineyards located at lower altitudes. The month of May also recorded rather cool temperatures, below seasonal averages. The result was a production load that was not excessive, estimated at -10% compared to 2020.

The month of June began a long period of good weather that continued throughout the summer where temperatures were recorded in line with the averages for the period and without excesses, especially during the night hours. Only in the second and third week of August did the daily highs reach 35°C while already at the end of the month the highs returned to below 30°C. The dry climate continued throughout the month of September, with only one brief storm on 16/9 and in the second half of the month the nights began to become cooler, an ideal situation for the ripening of the Nebbiolo grapes. In fact, at the beginning of October, the Nebbiolo bunches were healthy, with optimal phenological ripening, aided by the significant temperature variations of the second half of September and October.

The harvest in Barbaresco began on October 6 and continued until the 18th of the month with mild and dry weather. From a quantitative point of view, the production load was optimal and well-balanced, with berries visually smaller than last year. These factors led to a very rich polyphenolic endowment, essential for producing structured and balanced wines, destined to last over time.

In conclusion, we can say that we have harvested high quality grapes that will surely produce important, complex and pleasant tasting wines, with good structure and longevity. An excellent year from all points of view.
