PRODUCT INFORMATION
Classification:
Toscana IGT
Blend:
Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc
Climate:
The winter season of the 2014 vintage was
characterized by mild weather with temperatures
slightly higher than average. This led
to an early budbreak of all varieties:
Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.
The
spring season presented mild and dry weather
that allowed for good flowering
and fruit set.
The summer, slightly unstable with more frequent rainfall
than usual, slowed the veraison and
ripening processes, partially rebalancing in the first
weeks of September, thanks to warm and
sunny days. The harvest took place between the second half of
September and early October. The Cabernet Franc was
harvested between September 22nd and 30th, the Sangiovese
from October 3rd to October 7th, and the Cabernet Sauvignon from
October 9th to October 12th.
Winery:
The 2014 harvest was dominated by vineyard management and grape selection
for achieving the quality of Solaia. Leaf removal and
vineyard thinning, combined with careful manual harvesting, ensured the vinification of grapes
with excellent potential and strong varietal identity.
Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are delicately destemmed, and the berries, before being pressed,
are carefully selected on the sorting table; here, attention to detail is paramount;
it is crucial that only perfect berries enter the 60-hl truncated cone-shaped vinification tanks.
During fermentation and maceration, the musts slowly transform into wine; During this
phase, extreme care is required to maintain freshness and aromas, without neglecting
color extraction and tannin management aimed at sweetness and elegance. Once
the skins and wine are separated, malolactic fermentation begins, which, in barriques, enhances the wine's finesse and
pleasantness. The aging process takes place in new French oak barrels for
approximately 18 months. During this period, the different lots, vinified separately based on the variety and
the viticultural variables, mature in wood and are then assembled a few months before
bottling.
Historical data:
Solaia is a vineyard of approximately 20 hectares with a southwest exposure, between 350 and 400 meters above sea level, on a
calcareous, rocky soil with alberese and galestro rock, located at Tenuta Tignanello. Marchesi
Antinori produced this wine for the first time with the 1978 vintage; The initial blend was 80%
Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, a formula repeated in 1979. In subsequent vintages,
20% Sangiovese was introduced, and some adjustments were made to the ratio of
Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, until reaching the current blend. Solaia is produced
only in exceptional vintages and was not produced in 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, and 1992.
Tasting notes:
With a very intense ruby ??red color, it presents a richly concentrated aroma of red and
black fruits: black cherry, cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, blueberry, and undergrowth, which, combined with aromatic notes of
vanilla, black pepper, and licorice, create a decidedly broad and complex bouquet. On the
palate, it is extremely elegant and balanced, with a fresh and characterful approach, well-integrated
by soft and compact tannins. The finish, characterized by notes of fruit
and spice, is very elegant and persistent.
