PRODUCT INFORMATION

Chateau Calon Saint-Georges-Saint-Emilion is a Bordeaux red wine with an enveloping and concentrated taste that comes from the small production area of St-Georges-St-Emilion, one of the four so-called "satellite denominations" of the best-known AOC of Saint-Emilion. Emilion. The varietal basis of this bottle is represented by the four traditional Bordeaux vines Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and, above all, Merlot, a variety which provides the best results on the right bank of Bordeaux. It is no coincidence that Merlot alone represents 75% of the total vineyard area of the St-Georges-St-Emilion denomination.

Chateau Calon's Saint-Georges-Saint-Emilion comes from a solid base of 80% Merlot, combined with 10% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and just 1% Malbec. These varieties are planted on draining clayey soils particularly rich in limestone rocks, in the characteristic climate of the temperate oceanic zone with continental influences. The manual harvest of the grapes is followed by alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, associated with prolonged contact between the must and the skins. The resulting aging process instead takes place in French oak barriques, with a variable percentage of new wood, and lasts for 18 months until the final bottling.

In the glass, Chateau Calon Saint-Georges-Saint-Emilion reveals an intense ruby red coat. Intense aromas of blueberry, cherry and undergrowth emerge on the nose, surrounded by spicy sensations of tobacco and vanilla. Warm and full-bodied on the palate, very fragrant and persistent, with a velvety tannic texture that is accompanied by fresh balsamic perceptions on the finish. By virtue of its considerable structure, this Bordeaux red wine requires important pairings such as second courses based on red meat or game.
