PRODUCT INFORMATION
The Rosso di Montalcino from the San Polo estate is defined by a well-balanced marriage of solid structure and distinct freshness, resulting in a lively, highly drinkable wine. Year after year, this bottle consistently earns high scores in major wine guides—both in Italy and abroad—a testament to the unwavering dedication of San Polo. The estate is owned by the Allegrini family, a prominent name in Italian viticulture that has expanded from its roots in the Veneto region to other parts of Italy. This label champions the local terroir, with an uncompromising commitment to quality.
The Rosso di Montalcino is crafted from Sangiovese grapes grown in vineyards situated approximately 450 meters above sea level. The terroir, with its south and southeast-facing exposure, features clay-rich subsoils. Following manual harvest, the grape clusters are destemmed, and the resulting berries undergo gentle pressing. The must is fermented in concrete tanks for 14–16 days, after which it undergoes malolactic fermentation in large oak barrels. The wine is then aged for 12 months in lightly toasted oak casks with capacities of 20 to 40 hectoliters.
In the glass, the San Polo Rosso di Montalcino displays a brilliant, luminous ruby ??hue. The nose offers an intriguing array of aromas, blending fruity and floral notes with more intense hints of tobacco and sweet spices—nuances imparted by the oak during the aging process. On the palate, it is medium-to-full-bodied, characterized by a core of fruit flavors and a harmonious, velvety texture. A label best enjoyed while “young,” yet one that also possesses good aging potential—making it a great choice to uncork in 3–4 years, ensuring a delightful drinking experience down the line!
Color:
Bright ruby ??red
Aroma:
Complex and spicy, with notes of cherries, red flowers, wild herbs, tobacco, and sweet spices
Taste:
Soft, warm, fruity, and enveloping, with well-balanced tannins
