This is the philosophy that guides Gianfranco and Graziella Soldera on their estate southwest of Montalcino, where they cultivate the Sangiovese Grosso grape, which extends over 23 hectares and from which they produce their Brunello di Montalcino. Gianfranco and Graziella firmly believe that, to achieve a high-quality Brunello di Montalcino, one must rely on the experience of the past, fully understanding it, so as to be able to verify and innovate with modern experimental techniques. This is why the wines produced on the Case Basse estate are the fruit of research and studies. Supported by the Agriculture departments of several universities, and by the Department of Microbiology at the University of Florence, Soldera wines benefit from an electronic control unit that monitors climate trends throughout the year and from a careful study of the entire winemaking process, which allows for the control and analysis of the wine from the vineyard to the moment it is consumed. All this while respecting traditional cultivation techniques: herbicide-free fertilization, a structure and organization of the vineyards that allows for hand-cultivation, double pruning, grape thinning, and limited autumn leaf removal that promote proper fruit ripening.
