Climate The 2023 Chianti Classico season began with an averagely cold and dry winter, particularly in late March, favoring regular bud break. From late April until the second ten days of June, the weather was generally cool and rainy, while the summer, generally warm and dry, with no significant heat spikes, favored an excellent balance between vegetative growth and production. Moderate rainfall in August and regular seasonal conditions in September and October allowed the grapes to optimally initiate and complete the ripening process; harvest began in mid-September with the Sangiovese and concluded in early October with the Cabernet.
Winding Upon arrival at the cellar, the bunches were destemmed and then gently pressed; the must was transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place, lasting approximately a week. Maceration, which lasted approximately 10 days, was managed with very gentle pumping over and délestage to ensure intense extraction while preserving the elegance and sweetness of the tannins. After malolactic fermentation, which occurred spontaneously by the end of the year, the blended wine continued to age in French and Hungarian oak barrels for approximately one year. Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva was then bottled and refined in bottle for an additional 12 months.
Historical Data Tenuta Tignanello is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, on the rolling hills between the Greve and Pesa valleys. It extends over 319 hectares, approximately 130 of which are planted to vines. Tenuta Tignanello's vineyards are composed primarily of the native Sangiovese grape, along with non-traditional varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Marchese Antinori is a historic Antinori wine, produced since the 2011 vintage with grapes from the Tignanello Estate. This wine is a perfect expression of the quality and elegance of Sangiovese from this area.
Tasting Notes Ruby red in color, Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2023 strikes the nose with notes of black cherries, small red berries, and raspberry jelly, blending with floral scents of broom and violet. Spicy sensations of ginger, cocoa, custard, and cedar aromas complete the bouquet. On the palate, the balance between the silky texture and the savory finish is impressive. The sweet, dense tannins enhance a lingering finish characterized by notes of chocolate and vanilla sugar.
