PRODUCT INFORMATION
La Pieve Gran Selezione embodies the essence of San Felice’s Chianti Classico. Crafted from Sangiovese grapes harvested in the estate’s finest vineyards and vinified with meticulous care, this wine represents the ultimate expression of the terroir—a true reflection of San Felice’s winemaking philosophy, which has always sought to interpret the land through its native grape varieties.
Vintage Characteristics
The 2021 vintage was marked by a consistent, steady seasonal progression. Spring rainfall fostered healthy vegetative growth and built up water reserves, which proved vital during the dry summer months. Following Easter, a brief drop in temperature slowed shoot development in the cooler areas of the Chianti Classico region. There was no significant pressure from fungal diseases such as powdery mildew or downy mildew. Although the summer was dry, the water reserves accumulated in the spring provided relief, and there were no periods of extreme heat. From late August onwards, high daytime temperatures were balanced by cool nights, facilitating optimal grape ripening. The Sangiovese harvest began around September 20th, in line with previous vintages.
Tasting Notes and Food Pairings
An intense ruby ??red in color, the wine offers a broad, persistent bouquet. Notes of sweet violets and blackcurrants are complemented by delicate, sweet spicy undertones of tobacco and licorice. Full-bodied, smooth, and well-structured, it features ripe, succulent tannins that are perfectly balanced by its acidity. An ideal pairing for game, roasts, grilled meats, and cheeses.
