PRODUCT INFORMATION
Castello di Ama’s Chianti Classico Gran Selezione “San Lorenzo” represents the ultimate expression of Sangiovese—complemented by small percentages of Merlot and Malvasia Nera—from one of Tuscany’s most prestigious and renowned estates. The label takes its name from its place of origin: the stunning valley where the estate’s historic vineyards are cultivated, consistently yielding grapes of superior quality. The result is an elegant, aromatically intense, and complex wine with extraordinary aging potential—a truly distinguished bottle for connoisseurs to savor.
“San Lorenzo” is a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione hailing from the Gaiole in Chianti area. The Castello di Ama estate is situated in a magnificent hilly landscape at an altitude of approximately 500 meters, producing a range of top-tier wines. This wine is crafted from a blend of the estate’s finest vineyard plots—featuring old vines—located in the Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo, and Montebuoni areas. The Sangiovese, Merlot, and Malvasia grapes are hand-harvested between late September and early October; following careful sorting, the best clusters are vinified separately by variety. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at around 30°C, involving a month-long maceration on the skins and periodic manual pump-overs. The wine matures for 14 months in fine-grained French oak barriques (22% new) and completes its long aging process with an additional 24 months in the bottle.
The Gran Selezione “San Lorenzo” is the most prestigious Chianti Classico produced by the renowned Castello di Ama estate. It is a red wine that highlights the character of a magnificent terroir and the expertise of a world-class winery. It presents a brilliant ruby-red color with subtle garnet hues. The nose is elegant and intense, offering floral notes of violet, aromas of ripe cherry, redcurrant, and Morello cherry, alongside hints of forest floor, leather, blond tobacco, vanilla, and soft spices. Well-structured, it features a dense tannic texture seamlessly integrated with generous, ripe fruit, resulting in a deep and complex palate. The finish is harmonious, fresh, and remarkably persistent.
