PRODUCT INFORMATION
Typical tar and paraffin notes, very subtle yet present, and a particularly pronounced fruitiness, characterized by ripe banana, pineapple, and mango. A good bitter cocoa and concentrated espresso are also present.
A pleasant balsamic, minty note. A pleasant saline note, along with a good licorice note.
With water, the woody note intensifies.
The finish is long, markedly licorice-infused, and has a rather persistent flavor.
The legendary Caroni distillery ceased operations in 2002, after a long production period that began in Trinidad in 1918, leaving Angostura as the only active distillery on the island. The reserves of this superb rum have become particularly sought-after by independent bottlers for their rich, spicy character, sparking a veritable treasure hunt to secure the old barrels. Caroni is now renowned throughout Europe: the distillery has been closed since 2003, and bottlings from the few remaining barrels are increasingly valuable among collectors. After 51 different expressions in 12 years, they bottle the Full Strength and Imperial 100° proof rums with the classic black-and-white photo labels, while also maintaining the blends with colored labels. Inventories are continually decreasing, considering Trinidad's incredible Angel Share, up to 10% annually. At the same time, aging is accelerating. The latest releases from 2016 were literally sold out, among the few markets where the bottles are available. The search for bottles from the early 1990s is fervent, and their value has reached astronomical figures that, until a few years ago, would have been unthinkable for rums released only a few years ago. Today, a bottle of Caroni is the investment with the highest and most immediate return. For the heroes who open bottles: the pleasure of tasting the oldest rum on the market today!
