PRODUCT INFORMATION
Classification:
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva
Grape variety:
Sangiovese
Climate:
The 2012 vintage was characterized by a balanced
autumn, followed by a cold winter and a
mild spring. The summer season was characterized
by a generally warm climate, especially in the
early part, allowing for the regular ripening of the
grapes. During the end of August, the significant drops in
temperature and the marked temperature variations
favored the development of the intensity and complexity of the
aromatic component of the Sangiovese. The harvest
took place between the end of September and the beginning of October,
during dry, mild days.

Pian delle Vigne Vigna Ferrovia / 2012
Vinification:
The careful and meticulous selection of the bunches, carried out through a green selection carried out
several times during the pre-ripening phase, and generally favorable
weather conditions, ensured that perfectly intact and ripe grapes arrived at the cellar. The berries,
after destemming and gentle pressing, were transferred to steel tanks for
alcoholic fermentation. The wine remained in contact with its skins for a period of approximately
24 days, then left the steel tanks to age in wood. The slow and
balanced evolution, which began in small 5 Hl barrels and reached 30 Hl,
took place over the course of two and a half years. In May 2016, Vignaferrovia left the
wood to begin its bottle aging.
Historical data:
Tenuta Pian delle Vigne, located 6 km southwest of Montalcino, takes its name from a
characteristic 19th-century railway station located on its grounds. The estate comprises
184 hectares, 65 of which are planted with southeast-facing vineyards at an altitude of approximately 130 meters above sea level. Pian
delle Vigne has always pursued a philosophy of aging in large barrels, capable of preserving the
extraordinary integrity of the Sangiovese fruit and giving Brunello its characteristic vibrant
elegance. The estate has been owned by the Antinori family since 1995.
Vignaferrovia is produced only in the finest vintages from a small vineyard of approximately 4.5 hectares
adjacent to the old Pian delle Vigne railway station, nestled in soils that are mainly
clayey and calcareous, rich in fine gravel. It was not produced in 2005, 2008, and 2011.
Tasting notes:
Vignaferrovia 2012 has an intense ruby ??red color. The nose reveals notes of morello cherry,
ripe black fruit, blackberry, and currant, harmoniously blended with balsamic and spicy notes. On the palate, it is rich and
full, with well-integrated silky tannins. The long and persistent finish offers aromas
of spices, fruit preserved in alcohol, and cocoa, enhanced by a light and delicate acidity.
