PRODUCT INFORMATION
It is one of the rare pure Cabernet Francs from Bolgheri and Italy, dedicated by Marilisa Allegrini to her brother Walter and which has become the flagship of Poggio al Tesoro. In Bolgheri's microclimate and the skeletal-rich soils of the Via Bolgherese vineyard, located in the prized area known as Soprastrada, this varietal, generally used to lend elegance to Bordeaux blends, finds the ideal conditions to express itself in an independent and highly original way.
Climate Trend
The Bolgheri area in 2021 was characterized by a long dry period, from mid-May to the end of the harvest. The summer was predominantly dry and breezy, with warm but not excessively muggy temperatures. Thanks to the rainy winter, good water reserves were stored, which helped avoid stressing the vines during the dry period. The harvest of white and red grapes for rosé began in the last week of August, thanks to climates that were perfectly favorable for the perfect ripening of the grapes, which arrived in excellent condition for harvest. At the beginning of September, we harvested the best Vermentino parcels, proceeding with a staggered ripening process from Syrah to Merlot, and continuing with the Cabernets until the last week of September. A significant temperature range between day and night, especially in early September, helped preserve the acidity of the grapes and the aromatic components. The vinification process produced expressive whites and rosés, with a refreshing drinkability, and fragrant, savory reds with a significant polyphenolic component that lingers after long aging. We can consider 2021 a beautiful vintage, characterized by fresh and mineral wines that are at the same time full-bodied, with elegant tannins and excellent persistence, fragrance, and aroma.
