PRODUCT INFORMATION
Born from the same vines, under the same sky, with the same philosophy. Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is a proud second wine,
it has the gift of anticipating the character of the estate's flagship wine and, at the same time, offering its own
point of view. The joy of its sip evolves over time, adding the charm of maturity to the energy of youth.
TASTING NOTES
44% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 14.5% vol.
Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2023 presents an intense ruby ??red color with violet reflections, which
enhance its youth and beautiful concentration. On the nose, clear aromas of ripe berries and
cherry stand out, intertwined with delicate spicy notes, typical expressions of the beautiful maturity of our grapes.
On the palate, the wine stands out for its well-crafted tannins, supported by a harmonious structure and
perfectly balanced by a lively freshness. The balance between power and smoothness, as always, offers
a pleasant and engaging drink, suggesting excellent development despite its prompt
pleasure.
THE CLIMATE OF 2023
2023 was a challenging year in Bolgheri, but it nevertheless benefited from nature's benevolence at
crucial moments of the growing season. The winter was mild, with relatively high temperatures and
normal rainfall, which favored early vine growth. Spring brought abundant
rainfall, useful for replenishing water reserves for summer, but which required meticulous work
in the vineyard. The hot summer saw high temperatures, though not reaching extreme peaks, accompanied
by rainfall that mitigated water stress in the vineyards. This allowed for a gradual and even ripening of the
grapes , which reached a high concentration. The late August rains and cool September nights
favored the development of aromatic complexity and preserved the wine's acidity, ensuring a perfect
balance between power and elegance.
VINIFICATION AND AGEING
The grapes were harvested by hand in 15-kg crates, and the bunches were selected on a double sorting table
before and after destemming and finally subjected to a soft pressing. Since 2016, in addition to manual selection,
optical selection has been introduced to further increase the quality of the selection. Each variety and each parcel
was vinified separately. Alcoholic fermentation took place partly in stainless steel vats and partly in
concrete vats, at temperatures between 22-28°C for two weeks, followed by maceration for approximately 10-15
days. Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel vats, after which the wines were transferred to
barriques (25% new and 75% used). The wine remained in barriques in the Ornellaia cellar at a
temperature control for approximately 15 months. After the first 12 months, the wine was assembled and
then returned to the barriques for an additional 3 months. The wine remained in bottle for six months before
being released to the market.
