What vintage was it?
Why do you taste 2017 wines in 2020? And, above all, how was this vintage? Is it worth attending the 2020 Preview? Let's try to answer these important questions in order. First of all, in 2020 you can taste the wine of 2017 because the production regulation of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano requires at least 2 years of maturation (3 for the reserve) starting from January 1st following the harvest. The harvest takes place between September and October, so starting from the following January it is necessary to wait two years for the wine to become Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. So in 2020 we will taste the wine of the 2017 harvest. 2017 was a very complex year for viticulture in these area, and led to a very limited production compared to previous years, but not lowering the quality. The score given to a vintage is measured in stars. The rating can vary from 1 to 5 stars and to the delight of all the 2017 Vino Nobile obtained 5 stars, so it was an exceptional vintage! Participants in the Preview will be able to taste the wines of over 40 producers, talk with them, collect information on production from the vineyard to the cellar. This alone would be enough appealing to decide to spend a weekend full of emotions in the Fortress of Montepulciano, if we add to this that the vintage was excellent, let's say that it is absolutely worth it.
