Sour cherry, underbrush, tar, smoke and crushed dried rose petals waft from the glass in this architectural, pure wine. So vibrant it nearly shimmers across the palate, this ’92 Intistieti belies its years in its energy, sweet inner perfume and lingering minerality. When a wine failed to meet Soldera’s exacting standards for the Brunello di Montalcino designation, Intistieti was classified as Vino da Tavola Intistieti. The first of these was made in 1985, though it’s a very rare occurrence, the wine has appeared again in 1987, 1992, and 1995. Organically grown Sangiovese ferments with natural yeasts and ages in large oak botti for a full four years--essentially the same protocol that Soldera gives his Brunello.
